Why I Wrote This Cookbook

All of this started back in 2012, when I was a busy mom of two trying to juggle work, laundry, cleaning, and of course, cooking. At the end of each day, I felt like I had no time left for the things that truly mattered.

I kept thinking, There has to be an easier way.

So I decided to try something different: spend a little time on the weekend prepping meals in advance so I could take “What’s for dinner?” off my plate during the week.

I had tried freezer meals before, but most of them were heavy casseroles that I didn’t feel good serving to my family. That’s when I had a breakthrough: What if freezer meals could be simple, healthy recipes that were frozen raw and cooked later?

I started testing recipes, and the results were so easy, delicious, and life-changing that I had to share.

And that’s how The Family Freezer was born.

Since then, I’ve shared thousands of freezer meal recipes through eBooks and my online membership community of more than 200,000 members, helping families around the world get healthy dinners on the table with less stress.

What makes these freezer meals different?

Most freezer meals are essentially frozen leftovers. This cookbook features my revolutionary “no-cook” freezer meal system, meaning the recipes are assembled quickly and frozen raw. The meals cook for the very first time after freezing, so they taste like a freshly prepared meal—not reheated leftovers.

Are all of the recipes cooked in the crockpot?

The cookbook features a variety of cooking methods! Every recipe can be prepared without cooking ahead of time and frozen for months. When you're ready to eat, the meals are cooked using a slow cooker, Instant Pot, stovetop, oven, and/or grill. Whenever possible, each recipe includes multiple cooking method options so you can choose what works best for you.

Do the recipes work for special diets?

Many of the recipes are naturally gluten-free and dairy-free, or can be easily adapted. Every recipe also includes full nutritional information and WeightWatchers® Points to help you choose meals that fit your needs.

Are the recipes healthy?

Yes. You won’t find any ingredients like condensed soup or soda pop. I try to eat as many vegetables as possible and very limited amounts of processed foods. The ingredients in my recipes are simple, healthy, and sold at most local grocery stores.

Does it include photos of the cooked meals?

Yes, every recipe features a full-size color photo of the cooked meal to inspire your next dinner.

Is nutritional information included?

Yes, full nutritional information and WeightWatchers® Points are shared for every recipe.

How many servings are in each recipe?

It varies per recipe, but the average is 6. You can decrease the number of servings by splitting each recipe into two freezer bags or two 9-inch pie pans.

Do I have to make all 12 recipes in the monthly meal plans?

Not at all. The monthly meal plans and shopping lists are there to make freezer cooking easier, but you can pick and choose individual recipes to make anytime. The recipes can even be cooked fresh for dinner if you don’t want to freeze them!

Where are the recipes from?

These recipes were originally developed in collaboration with two chefs for my upgraded VIP membership. In this cookbook, they’re organized into simple monthly meal plans with full-color photos and shopping lists, making freezer cooking easy all year long.
